NMAA LEAGUE RULES
Note - NMAA reserves the right to amend the rules at any point in the season as they see fit.
Code of Conduct
NMAA promotes a clean, family friendly atmosphere. Any violation of these policies is taken very seriously.
There is absolutely no FIGHTING allowed. First offense is 1 game suspension. Second offense is expulsion from the league.
There is no cursing allowed. NMAA promotes a family friendly atmosphere. Any cursing is an automatic technical foul. Excessive cursing will result in a warning, followed by a 1 game suspension. Any cursing towards fans in the audience or NMAA staff will result in an immediate 1 game suspension. Incidents will carry over season to season and players can and will be put on probation if they do not adhere to these rules.
Players must comply with their coaches. Coaches control teams, rotations and strategy. Players cannot disregard the coach on these items. All teams also agree to be a good participant and respect NMAA's policy and other teams. All teams must attend every game as forfeits are strictly forbidden. Once teams have registered and paid they automatically agree to be bound by these rules.

Draft League Trade Rules:
Trades: All coaches have full authority to manage their teams. All coaches have the right to trade players to better their team.
Players have rights to ask for a trade, but ultimately it is the coach's decision whether or not he will trade that player.
Once the coaches have agreed to a trade, that trade must be presented to the commissioner/VP for approval. No trade can be posted or published without the commissioner's board (Omair and Dev) seeing it first.
Once the board has approved the trade, it will be announced in the coaches chat. A period will be allowed before it is posted for coaches to contact the players who have been traded.
Coaches not involved in the trade have the right to send a formal protest. No trade can be vetoed by anyone other than the commissioner.
No trades will be vetoed in NMAA unless they have a significant discrepancy in talent. We want to use an honor system that puts trust into coaches that they know what they’re doing.
Injuries/Lineup Shortage:
Lineup shortage: If a team does not have 5 players on gameday, coaches need to post in the coaches chat requesting help.
A coach is the primary replacement if a team has less than 5 players.
A non NMAA player can be picked up off the bleachers pending NMAA board and opposing coach approval.
If a coach is not available, a coach can request a like temporary pickup off the free agent list, must be approved by NMAA board and opposing coach, must be similar position and skill
Players can be replaced up until the quaterfinal round, not on finals day due to injury
As long as all trades follow our guidelines, NMAA has empowered coaches the power to run their teams as they see fit, so no trades will be vetoed.
Coaches are required to adhere to the NMAA code of conduct. No coach can tamper with another trade, nor publicly criticize the players or the coach. IF this occurs, NMAA will warn the coach to desist or run the risk of being removed as a coach.
For any trades done by the commissioner, veto power will reside with the NMAA Board next in command.
Keeper leagues - Draft must be balanced with first round draft picks and there must be parity in the current season for it to be eligible for keepers the following season. Commish has final decision on keeper leagues.
Game:
League games follow Florida High School rules.
48 minute game - 4 12 minute quarters.
3 timeouts for the whole game. 1 timeout MUST be used in the first half or it is lost.
Running Clock, clock stops in final two minutes of second half. Clock stoppage includes free throws, timeouts, and made baskets. Clock will not stop in the fourth quarter if a team is up by 20 points or more. Clock stops for timeouts.
Teams can call timeout when it is on offense or when the play is dead (dead-ball, free-throws, etc).
For each overtime, each team shall be entitled to (1) 30 second timeout.
Excessive timeout: When a player asks for a timeout and the team no longer has any, the team (not player) will be charged with a technical foul. The opposing team takes two free throws and gains possession.
Timeouts will not be granted when an airborne player's momentum carries him out of bounds or into the backcourt. Airborne is defined as both feet in the air. Thus, timeouts will be granted if a player still has at least one foot on the ground.
Out of a timeout, the ball can be advanced to half-court only during the last 2 minutes of regulation or at any point during the overtime. The inbounding team can use the backcourt to inbound - it will not result in a backcourt violation.
If a timeout is taken at any other point in the game, the ball must be inbounded where the timeout was taken.
Overtime games will be 2 minutes during regular season, 3 minutes during playoffs, and 5 minutes during the championship game.
Teams must be present for their games 10 minutes prior to tipoff. Any team that does not have 4 players at tipoff will be given a 2 minute warning after which a forfeit will be granted. Forfeits will result in a 10 point victory for the winning team, and 30 point loss for the losing team. Forfeiting team will also be responsible for paying a $50 fine. However, NMAA Staff will reserve the right to announce when and if the game is a forfeit.
2nd forfeit fine will increase to $100 and possible expulsion from the league and a 1 year ban.
Roster:
No more than 8 players per team.
Players must play a minimum of 60% of their games to be eligible for the playoffs. If a player does not play in at least half the games, they will not be allowed to participate in the playoffs. Only first round games apply.
Each team will be given (1) injury exemption for a hurt player. If a player gets hurt and cannot play for the rest of the season, the team may use their exemption to replace him, if this injury occurs after the midseason point. This rule can also be applied to players with attendance problems or other reasons that require a coach to replace that player. NMAA must meet the player to verify they will miss the rest of the season. This does not apply during the playoffs. Injury exemption players must play in at least 1 game if they have played in NMAA before, 2 games if they are new to NMAA. Playoff games can count to this. The Commish can grant waivers on this rule on a case by case scenario, such as multiple injuries to a team leaving them with 5 players or less.

Second offense by any player on the team will result in that player not being allowed to play. Directors have final say in who will be allowed to play.
